A few years ago, a TV show here (about books) decided to make a whole show with naked guests, hosts, and audience.
To make a point: the important thing is what you say. Sadly, only guys turned in, and the only female guest who accepted the invitation was… a porn star.

1. The important thing is not only what you say, but how you say it. Your message needs to be received well. Nudity, sexuality, pornography I believe are all valuable artistic platforms that can be sued to draw awareness to important issues.
2. How do you know only guys tuned in? What era was this “tv show” aired in? Were women still publicly embarrassed about being attracted to other women?
3. A porn star accepted the invitation because for the most part us porn stars are pretty cool fucking people. Why not say that the only woman with enough courage to be broadcasted on a TV show naked was a porn star? Why not say that the only woman comfortable and confident and proud enough of her body to be broadcasted naked on a TV show to discuss literature was a porn star?
Man am I sick of people not taking sexuality as a serious subject and dismissing it as a low and crude subject. Seriously people, do some research, only until after christianity struck did we have this problem.

I’m on your side, but people like us are fighting thousands of years of Judeo-Christian guilt programming. It’s far more difficult for a porn star to be taken seriously in the mainstream, as the media will instantly sensationalize the “oh my Lord and Baby Jesus, she has sex on camera for money!” angle, and the pre-programmed masses will respond first with disgust and judgment.
It’s no longer enough for me to simply label these people as “mindless sheep” and move on. I actually want to change people’s minds about these kinds of issues, but it’s next to impossible. Too much of the current power hierarchy relies on being able to use feelings of guilt, insecurity and fear to manipulate people. When you start blurring those comfortable lines, people withdraw. Start to change enough people’s minds and the division between the free-thinker and conservative camps becomes a defining element of one’s identity on both sides, a “them-or-us” mentality ensues, and you end up with two highly polarized groups, neither of which is likely to change their mind about anything.
I’m not sure what the solution is yet, but I have to believe there is one.
Personally, I love that I can come to a site like this and, in the same post, make points about the economics of biofuels and compliment a nice pussy shot.
