I hear there used to be a banyan tree on this island
me and the iguana, originally uploaded by Sequoia Redd.
The tree had lots of monkeys living in it. Then Wilma the Hurricane came and blew it all down. Now the island is ruled by giant iguanas that poop all over the bridge so that no human dare pass. But poop doesn’t scare me. One tried to chase me away today.
So I took a picture with him:
Then I took a picture of him:
Don’t you just love the hideous prehistoric beauty of iguanas?

I am jealous that you get to observe such beautiful creatures. Living in San Jose as you well know is quite the urban experience, but it still has its charms.

South Florida is definitely urban. The reason the iguana population is so large is because its the perfect climate for them. They’re non-indigenous to Florida but people buy them at the pet stores, then let them go and now they’ve taken over. But thats ok because they’re vegetarian and quite beautiful.

It is sad what people throw away when they find they can’t take care of the animal. Its the wastefulness of our population I guess. Iguanas are definitely beautiful and I had a friend who had one as a pet for several years.

Oh Good God!! I can appreciate the whole nature thing, but iguanas scare the sh*t out of me. You look beautiful though.
